texas rv parks awards from campspot

Every year, the Campspot Awards recognize campgrounds across the country in categories ranging from RV camping and glamping to family camping and campground size. Campspot uses its own campground and reservation data along with factors that can include guest ratings, amenities, and other criteria specific to each award category.

Campspot doesn’t give us a Texas Top 5—or even a Texas Top 10, which I admit would make this article even more fun. Instead, campgrounds are recognized as winners within individual categories.

This year, four Texas campgrounds received recognition. Some are familiar names with previous Campspot awards, while others may introduce you to a campground you haven’t considered before. Let’s take a look at all four.

Camp Fimfo Texas Hill Country — New Braunfels

Camp Fimfo Texas Hill Country

2026 Campspot Award: Top Campgrounds in the U.S.

Previous Campspot Awards: Top Large Campground and Top Campground for Digital Nomads in 2024; Top for Families and Top Design in 2022.

Camp Fimfo is the one campground on this year’s Texas list that we’ve personally visited. We stayed for our granddaughter’s birthday and found it to be very much a family destination. The kids had big water slides, pools and plenty of activities to keep them busy, while the adults could relax around the pool—including at the swim-up bar. Camp Fimfo currently has two resort pools, a water playground and four large water slides.

Our campsite had enough room for the family to gather comfortably, and the kids enjoyed riding their bikes around the large loop in our section.

One thing I would strongly recommend is considering a golf cart. Camp Fimfo is spread out, and we were glad to have one for getting between our campsite and the different activity areas. Golf cart rentals are available through the resort.

Camp Fimfo has continued adding attractions since our visit, so there are already things there that we haven’t experienced ourselves. That’s a good reminder to check the current amenities and activity schedule when planning a stay. Some attractions and activities are seasonal.

The Vineyards Campground & Cabins — Grapevine

The Vineyards Campground & Cabins

2026 Campspot Award: Top Campgrounds in the U.S.

Previous Campspot Award: Top Mid-Size Campground in 2024.

The Vineyards Campground & Cabins sits along Grapevine Lake in North Texas. Campers can choose from full-hookup RV sites, including pull-through options, or stay in one of the campground’s furnished cabins overlooking the lake.

The lake is a big part of the experience here. The campground offers fishing, kayaking, a private beach and a nature trail, and its camp store carries camping supplies in addition to souvenirs and gifts. Historic Downtown Grapevine is also just a short drive away.

This is The Vineyards’ second Campspot recognition in three years, moving from a Top Mid-Size Campground winner in 2024 to one of the Top Campgrounds in the U.S. for 2026.

Tropic Island Resort — Port Aransas

Tropic Island Resort

2026 Campspot Award: Top Campgrounds for Glamping

Previous Campspot Award: Best Campground for National Park Lovers in 2023.

This one caught my attention.

We have camped in Port Aransas many times over the years, and I have driven past Tropic Island Resort more times than I could possibly count. Until I started researching the 2026 Campspot winners, I didn’t realize there was an RV park tucked behind the small motel and colorful cottages.

Now I’m curious.

Tropic Island offers more than traditional RV camping. There are two RV camping areas along with hotel rooms, cottages, bungalows, and an apartment. The resort also has pools and hot tubs and is located right in Port Aransas, with beaches, fishing, restaurants and shopping nearby.

After somehow overlooking this campground during all those Port Aransas trips, I’ll be taking a closer look when we start planning next summer’s camping.

Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park Texas Wine Country — Fredericksburg

Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park Texas Wine Country

2026 Campspot Award: Top Campgrounds for RVs

Previous Campspot Awards: Top Campgrounds in the U.S. and Top Campgrounds for RVs in 2025.

If you’ve followed RV Noni for a while, the Jellystone name probably isn’t new to you. This winner, however, is the Fredericksburg location in Texas Wine Country—not Jellystone Park Guadalupe River in Kerrville that we’ve visited with our grandkids.

The Fredericksburg campground combines RV sites and cottages with the family activities you would expect from a Jellystone Park, including a water park, pool, mini-golf, arts and crafts, jumping pillow, and organized activities. It’s also just outside Fredericksburg, giving families the option of using the campground as a destination or as a home base for exploring the area.

Receiving Campspot recognition again in 2026 makes this the second year in a row that the Fredericksburg Jellystone has appeared among Campspot’s award winners.

Which Award-Winning Texas Campground Fits You?

An award-winning campground doesn’t automatically mean it’s the right campground for every RVer.

A family looking for water slides, activities, and plenty for the kids to do may want something completely different from campers looking for a quiet weekend beside a lake. Someone headed to the Texas coast may be interested in having restaurants and activities close by, while another camper may prefer getting farther away from town.

That’s why I like looking through campground awards each year. They give us a place to start.

For 2026, Campspot’s four Texas winners range from a large family resort in the Hill Country to lakefront camping in North Texas and an island resort tucked into Port Aransas. Even after years of camping around Texas, there are still places on these lists that make me stop and say, How have I missed that one?

And apparently, Tropic Island Resort managed to do exactly that.
